The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Other than the traditional CrossFit Games, events for women will be held. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Continue reading to find out! Women are competing

The 2021 Crossfit Games' women's competition started this morning with the swim race. Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr and Jonne Koski won in the first event. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. This was the first Games event for women and the women's team hoped to finish the podium.

The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field comprises nine athletes, one of whom is a teenager who won the competition in Australia last summer. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr held the record for most Games wins with 30. Sager won Event 11 for men and earned his third win of the Games. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. After completing the Pegboard, the competition was intense and athletes felt a sense of accomplishment.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. While it's not as extreme or drastic as in previous Games, this year is very different. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.

This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok sponsored the Games for more a decade. Now, it is obvious that the company will lessen its involvement. Reebok won’t pay for the Games’ prize, but they will continue to make all athletic apparel, equipment, and gear worn by athletes. The company will no longer call itself the "Reebok CrossFit Game", as it currently does.
