The CrossFit Games 2021 are on the horizon, and many of the participants are incredibly excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. The women's competition, Pegboard contests, Cutting system and Reebok equipment are all well-known. But, do you really know what to expect? Read on to find out more. CrossFit News Page: Keep an eye out for news updates regarding the competition
Competition for women
The 2021 Crossfit Games women's competition opened this morning with a swim event. Jonne Koski, Tia-Clair Toomey Orr, and TiaClair Toomey Orr were the winners in the first event. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the women's first event in the Games and the women's side was hoping to complete the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes, including a 19-year-old powerhouse who won the competition in Australia last year. Kara Saunders of Australia, who was second in Australia and eleventh in the world in 2020, are also contenders. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. This competition will include these athletes and Sara Sigmundsdottir of Iceland, a newcomer to Crossfit. She won the first place Medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games are a competition where athletes focus on ten skills that improve their physical fitness: speed, agility, cardiovascular endurance, strength and flexibility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. There are 15 events in the competition, so it is possible that 30 athletes will be cut after the eighth or seventh event. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.
The CrossFit Games' largest ever field, consisting of 236 athletes this year, is the largest ever. The first six events result in major cuts. The field then drops to 75 athletes. The top thirty athletes then compete in a sprint team to determine the top 10. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system was criticized by veterans Games participants who felt the cuts were too large.
Equipment from Reebok
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. The Games have been sponsored by Reebok for over a decade, and it's now clear that the company's involvement will be decreasing. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. However, Reebok CrossFit Games will no longer be called the company.
